Braztesol 2018 - Lego and Bilingual Education

So what happened during the workshop at Braztesol Caxias do Sul?

First of all, I'd like to thank International School for sponsoring my talk. Although I'm not part of their staff any more,  I still collaborate with them on certain projects as an independent consultant.

As some of you might know, in the last 2 years I have worked educating teachers who have started working with Bilingual Education in Brazil, so my objective with the workshop was to share a bit of what I've been studying about the development of contemporary competencies and to show how we can use Lego Bricks in Bilingual Education classes.

We started with two activities which aimed to help participants discover and discuss about the differences between the Bilingual Education concept and EFL. Then, we discussed about Bilingual Education and the need to develop contemporary competencies. Lego® came as a tool which can help the development of such competencies in a playful way. Concepts such as Playful Learning and Hands-on Learning also came into the picture. Participants had the chance to work in groups from the start, discussing, sharing ideas and building reflective scenarios with Lego® bricks.

BYOD in Brazil - Apptivities for ELT

This is a blog post which follows a presentation given by me at the IMAGE CONFERENCE in Brasília today.

While thinking about the topic I had chosen to discuss, I decided to build my talk around an infographic with all the information I'd collected, along with links. 

- First, I used PIKTOCHART to create the embeddable infographic.

- Then, to make it interactive, I added the resources to it using THINGLINK. So if you hover the mouse over the image, when clicking the little dots, you'll be taken to different resources.

I initially talked about different aspects we have to consider when adopting either a BYOD or a 1:1 approach. Then, I presented some apps and activities involving the use of IMAGES and VIDEOS.

For THE LINKS I shared during the talk, pass the mouse over the infographic and look for some "magic dots".

BRAZ-TESOL 2008 Fortaleza

Braz-tesol conference took place between 14-17 July in Fortaleza. Several speakers from Brazil and abroad shared experience, presented research and made contacts.



A highlight for me was the Edutech Sig meeting on 14 July where I was able to meet e-friends I had never met f2f: Ana Falcão, Bee Dieu, Jose Antonio and Graham Stanley. We had a great time hugging each other, taking pictures, listening to what they had to say and experiencing the wonders of live broadcasting with UStream. Graham had his laptop recording the full session and both speakers and participants were able to interact with online participants. Can you imagine how happy I was when I heard Carla Arena, Illya, Nina and other LWCers were actually following us (watching us and hearing us)?

Another great moment for me was my own session “BLOG TALKS” where I shared blog projects I have developed in the last 2 years since I joined the Learning With Computers Community. In spite of the deafening sound of someone pounding on the wall which interrupted me for some time, the objective of sharing was accomplished. I had also created A BLOG to share with participants instead of providing a hand-out (saving trees); idea copied from Carla Arena and Erika´s session 2 years ago “Connect to Interact”.
