30 Goals Challenge Interview

This last week, I had the great pleasure of being interviewed by dear Shelly Terrell for the 30 GOALS CHALLENGE round of interviews with participants.

Each week ( I think), Shelly interviews one of the participants (past and current) of the 30 Goals Challenge about various topics and close to the end of the interview, the interviewee recommends the next person to be interviewed. I was tagged by my friend Roseli Serra, another admirable educator from Recife Brazil. Our interview was about Edtech, mobile learning and life in general.

Learning about Schools around the world

I've just started a unit with a group of EFL teenage students about Education.

In order to help them learn about how different school can be in other countries (or not), I'd love to have students from different countries participate in our VOICETHREAD.

Do you have teenage students? Do you have teenagers at home who could give us a hand?

To add a video-response and participate in our project, click COMMENT and record a video message, please.

These are some questions students can answer:

- What kind of secondary school do you go to? (private / state school)
- Do you like it?
- How many students are there in your class?
- How many hours a day do you stay at school?
- What kind of subjects do you like best?
- Can you choose what subjects to take?
- Do you have to wear a uniform?
- Can you describe the sitting arrangement in your classroom? ( in a U shape, in lines, in groups)
- And the classes? Does the teacher do most of the talking or do you work mostly in groups?
- Do students stay in the same room the whole school period or do they move to different rooms according to the subject?
- Is discipline very strict?

If you have teenage students and wish to join our project, you can record the whole class using your own voicethread account and have different students come to the webcam and answer the questions (an in-class activity) or you can set it as homework and students record themselves individually. What do you think? We would love to hear from you.

VOKI Interviews Educators- Ana Maria Menezes

Last week, I was surprised to receive an e-mail from VOKI, a site I've often used with students and blogged about, asking for an interview about how I've been using VOKI with my students.

Using Technology Well: David Deubelbeiss interviews Ana Maria

Last week, David Deubelbeiss (living in Seoul) creator of  the wonderful ning community EFL Classroom 2.0 got in contact with me for an interview for his new website ELT INTERVIEWS.

What an honour! He'll be interviewing several teachers who have been exploring the web around the world to share their experience.

Apart from the echo, the interview went very well. Loved talking to you , David. You're a great interviewer as you put us at ease.

During the interview we talked about my job, my blog,  the e-book I've published, using webtools with my students and Cultura EDtech , the online course I run to train teachers.

Students interview native speaker (TOKBOX)

One more time TOKBOX has proved to be a great tool.

My upper-intermediate students had just learned vocabulary related to education and I told them I knew a girl their age who studies in the States and we could ask her some questions about education in the US.

PROCEDURE:

1. Pairs of students created a question they would like to ask Cara (the American girl). We had 6 questions.
2. I used my tokbox account to record my students asking Cara their questions and sent her the video message via e-mail.
3. Cara received the video message and replied using the same tool "Tokbox".
4. I shared her video with my students via EDMODO ( a communication tool we use daily).

And this was Cara´s reply. The girl on the left is my daughter who is living in the US as an exchange student and Cara is her host sister.

Camila Sousa interviews Ana Maria about Cancer

Camila Sousa, a dear friend of mine, who teaches in the US asked if I could answer some questions her students wanted to know about Cancer. Watch our interview.

Originally, we tried http://wetoku.com for the interview but we had delay both in sound and image. The result was a catastrophe. Therefore, we decided to use http://screenr.com to record our interview in Skype and it worked beautifully.

Interview with Ozge Karaoglu

I've just had a wonderful time interviewing Ozge Karaoglu, an EFL teacher in Turkey. She talks about her experience telling stories and producing videos with her young learners.

She writes a great blog and also has a wiki with resources for teachers.

I decided to interview her so that she could share with us how she deals with storytelling with her students and how other teachers can also benefit from her ideas. Thanks Ozge for taking the time to share your experience with us!

Interview with WETOKU

I've just read a message in facebook about an interview Nik Peachey had with Graham Stanley from the British Council talking about their work in Second Life. The tool used was WETOKU. I was enchanted by the idea of being able to record an interview with such good quality and then be able to publish it in a blog and even share it in twitter or facebook. FANTASTIC!

PROBLEM: I believe you need an invitation code though (which can be requested in the site).



How can we use this tool with students?

• interview people from other countries or experts in the area you're studying. Then, publish the interview in a class blog so that you can show it to your students.
  
• have sts interview each other as a class project.

Great features: no download is necessary, you can interview , record it and get the embed code all in one place.
