SpeakerDeck - turn PDF into a slideshow

I've just discovered via @dkapuler a post from the fantastic blog Free Technology for Teachers a site which allows you to transform a pdf file into a slideshow which can be embedded online.

We use the Promethean E-board at the school where I teach and a way to share the files we use during our lessons would be to export it as a pdf. The possibility to turn it into a slideshow is more visually appealing, I guess.

* I still haven't found a way to diminish the size of the player.

Using MINI SAGAS - 10 ideas

I've always liked the concept of MINI SAGAS. Expressing your ideas in a few words (50 words). This is a presentation I've created with some ideas I brainstormed with CULTURA EDTECH participants yesterday. I used EMPRESSR to create the slideshow.

KIZOA - slideshows with effects

While surfing through David´s Kapuler´s wonderful blog, I decided to give Kizoa a try.

I normally used other slideshow creators but this one is truly AMAZING. You can choose transitions, effects, music, animations, insert texts ...

I know my first trial was a bit over-the-top with too many animations but I wanted to play with the possibilities. As today we celebrate Mother´s Day in Brazil, this one is for my mom. Beijos,mãe.

* I'm so sad :( , it was too good to be true. Many of the animations and effects I had chosen are part of the premium package which is paid. The free package is similar to other tools I've tried before.

Creating QUIZZES with Photopeach

After reading Sue Waters wonderful post and tutorial about http://photopeach.com I had to give it a try. I had already used photopeach for slideshows but was unaware of the possibility of creating quizzes. It´s so simple!

HOW TO DO IT

1. You create a slideshow.
2. Then click EDIT, edit captions +photos.
3. Click QUIZ, type questions and alternatives.
4. Click OK and your photo quiz w/ background music is ready.

MY TRIAL: I thought of a grammar topic, selected pictures and created some sentences with gaps. You can also create questions and answers, or images and words to recap vocabulary.

Grammar sites - a diigo slideshow

I´d like to share some sites I´ve been bookmarking at http://diigo.com under the tag GRAMMAR. In order to share them, I´ve saved them under a list called GRAMMAR , clicked on view webslide and got the widget which is just below. This is a nice way of sharing sites with colleagues or even with your students.

The week / year in pictures

I was reading the blog Free technology for teachers when I came across this wonderful idea for using images. MSNBC has published some slideshows featuring the most important facts which happened during the week and I thought this activity could be really interesting for EFL learners as well.

Why not show some slideshows as an example and then ask sts to make their own slideshows using pictures or cartoons featuring "The week in my life" or "The year in my life" or even "The year in my country"? That would be interesting.
