Tell us more about Brazil

Weeks ago, I was contacted by Larry Ferlazzo about having our students collaborate somehow as his students have been studying about Brazil. We exchanged a few messages trying to decide how this collaboration would take place and this is the result.

First, Larry's students recorded videos asking questions about Brazil.

Wow, there were many questions to be answered!
I asked my students if they accepted to collaborate with them and assigned a video to each student. The student would watch the video at home, select 3 questions to answer and write a draft on a piece of paper.

In class, I had a quick look at the texts, helped them with the pronunciation of some words while they practised reading their texts to their classmates. To make the recordings, I took a digital camera, my smartphone and an ipad to class, divided the students into 3 groups and asked them to record themselves. Although some of the video recordings have a lot of noise in the background, I believe they did a great job. They talked about  our typical food, carnival, our schools and much more.

Creative use of GLOGSTER

This last week, a colleague of mine, Estela, shared an amazing glogster she had come accross. This very creative teacher, webname sunrise651 (I'd love to find who this teacher is), from Bulgaria, has created several GLOGSTER posters to provide links to her students to study vocabulary and grammar.

Instead of providing  our students with a boring list of links, making a glogster poster linking to exercises and other glog pages is simply brilliant. http://sunrise651.edu.glogster.com/glogs/sortedBy/date/?offset=30

PROJECT: American Kids ask questions about Brazil

Last week, I received a very cute video from a friend of mine , Camila Sousa, who is teaching kids in the US. The kids ask questions about Brazil.

Watch their video. They're so cute!

Then, I invited a group of students to answer their questions in a recording. Students wrote their texts, practised and got ready for the recording. The final product was a virtual poster with all the recordings and some images. That's what I had imagined, something colourful which could really represent the "Brazilian Way".

Create your virtual poster

This is the second time I use GLOGSTER in order to make an online poster. This poster is an example of what you can do with Glogster. You select a background and can add pictures, videos, music, texts, animations.

GLOGSTER making web-posters

A friend of mine, Lívia fernandes, found out about Glogster in Facebook and decided to try it out with a project for mother´s day. She asked students to write a short text about their moms, then she scanned the texts and made a poster with their work. It´s so cute!!!!

Then as I wanted to try it out too, I made a present to e-colleagues of mine from the Learning with Computers community using Glogster.

Carla Arena after hearing about it also put her hands to work and created he own poster to send a message to her students.

Then yesterday, I came across this really cool glog made by photographer Jan von Holleben. It´s enchanting! Loved the photographs!

Besides being visually appealing it is so much fun making the posters! You can add images, videos, audio to preset cool templates.

HOW CAN WE USE IT WITH STUDENTS?
  • You can publish your student´s work.
  • Students can make their own poster on an specific topic.
  • You can send messages to students.
  • USE YOUR IMAGINATION
