Using images in class

HOW CAN WE USE IT WITH STUDENTS?

• have students select a picture and talk about it. Possible topics: their neighbourhood, their house, their family, their pet, their best friend.
• for FCE students: have them choose a picture and describe it.
  

PhotoFunia - a fun photo editor

I've written about various photo editors where you can add your picture to a preset template. With PhotoFunia, besides having cool images you can use, you can also make animated images from your pictures. After downloading your picture, you have the alternative to save it to your computer, send it as a postcard, grab the embed code or save as an avatar.

Music + Images - Moodstream

This is a wonderful site to enjoy by yourself or even use with your students. I came across the site this morning while browsing the wonderful "Whiteboard Blog" . In this post "11 Ideas for Music lessons on your IWB" dannynic suggests various sites we can use for class activities.

Below I'd like to share a short screencast of my first exploration with Moodstream.



How can we use this with students?

WARMERS

• Use moodstream in class while you organize the classroom and while sts get settled in class. If you have an IWB in class, the images will really attract their attention.
• Select a mood, play the selection for some minutes and ask sts to write freely what they think or feel at that moment. Sts then could share what they've written and see if they felt the same way.
• Divide class into Students A and B. Students A face the board (or TV), Sts B face sts A but have their backs to the board. Sts A describe the images they can see while sts B only listen. Then, swap pairs.

Time to try out CUSTOM SIGN GENERATOR. Why do I like SIGN GENERATORS so much? Well, we all know how important images are when it comes to teaching, right? So, editing tools can make the pictures you show to students much more interesting.

Let me see what I can do with THIS SITE

1. Have your face on a magazine cover.
   
2. Use your webcam to have your picture appear in silly scenes.
3. Try out different wigs and hair styles. You can use these pictures to teach vocab about appearance.
4. You can create postcards w/ your pictures.
5. Create magazine covers.
   

SHAHI - Visual dictionary

Just found this site via Carla Arena´s blog - Collablogat0rium.

It´s a visual dictionary where you enter the unknown word and then get definitions with examples plus images from flickr which represent the word you´re looking for.

You can also click on unknown words (sublinks) from the definitions and find their meanings too.The page keeps record of all your searches so that you can go back and re-check. I imagine it would look wonderful on the e-board. Fantastic tool!!!!!

This is a great site I´m exploring and wanted to share with other teachers. At imagechef.com you can find all kinds of templates to personalize your message or create an image to illustrate a post. You can personalize a birthday cake and send the image to a friend, use photo frames for your photos, create a great visual for your poetry, find animations, and much more.

Another cool site for editing images

This is a cool site I found in the blog "Thoughts from a Tech Specialist" . It´s called Be Funky and it offers tools I hadn´t seen in any other site so far. YOu can cartoonize pictures, create your avatar, distort images and so on. Very nice!!!

PHRASR

I found this site from Nick Peachey´s post. You cantransform sentences into images / a slideshow. It´s great for idiomatic expressions. Look at what I´ve created for the Life Feast blog.
